D.C. United youth update: July 17

The D.C. United Youth boys teams remain universally undefeated at all age levels as they enter their sixth week of play. Two wins in New Jersey last weekend for the U-20 team clinched a spot at nationals. The U-15 girls got their first win with a 2-1 victory over the City Islanders on Sunday in Pennsylvania. Throughout the week, the teams brought in a collective record of five wins, two losses and two ties.

When the U-20s swept their games last weekend, they not only secured themselves a spot at nationals, but also won the team the Davidson title for the second year in a row. The team fell behind 1-0 early in their game on Saturday against TSF Academy, but came back when Jimmy Carroll tied the game momentarily, and Christian Castillo scored off a free kick to again tie up the game at the half. Abimbola Pedro got the winner in the second half and Karl Gibeu scored the insurance goal to win the game. Abimbola's game winner was his 11th in only seven games; he has not had a game this season without at least one goal.

At Sunday's game, the U-20's came back from another early 1-0 deficit for a whooping 7-1 win against Parsippany SC on Saturday, with Abimbola notching his 12th goal of the year in the process. The team goes into its last game of the regular season this weekend with a perfect 8-0 record as it prepares for nationals August 2 in New Hampshire.

The U-14 boys enjoyed a 1-0 shutout on Saturday before a 1-1 tie on Sunday, while the U-13's enjoyed a weekend off.

The girls had a less successful week with a 1-1 draw at home on Saturday for the U-14 team and 7-0 loss the next day. However, the U-15 girls came back from a 3-1 defeat on Saturday to get their first win of the season on Sunday, something the team hopes to see more of in upcoming games.

This week's schedule includes midweek games for the U-14 boys and girls and the U-13 boys. The U-14 boys hit the field again for a 2 p.m. ET game on Saturday at DePaul Catholic School. At the same time, the U-15 girls play at the RFK/ D.C. United Training Complex. The U-14 girls take the field next, at 4 p.m., before the U-13 boys' 6 p.m. game.
