D.C. United waive Wilson

John Wilson leaves the Black-and-Red after three seasons with the club.

Washington, D.C. - D.C. United announced today the club has waived defender John Wilson. Wilson spent two-plus seasons with the Black-and-Red, after being signed by the team on May 27, 2005. United returns to action Thursday night against the Colorado Rapids at RFK Stadium. Kick-off before a nationwide audience on espn2 is set for 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available via www.dcunited.com.

"We would like to thank John for his contributions on and off the field, and we wish him the best of luck in the future," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper.

Wilson had not made a single appearance with the first team this season and departs D.C. after two-plus years with the club. He played in 17 games (11 starts) during his first year and made 11 appearances (two starts) during 2006. He did not see the field with the first team this season, due primarily to reoccurring injuries. He did see time in two reserve games, totaling 111 minutes on the pitch. Prior to coming to United, Wilson spent time with the Rochester Raging Rhinos and Charleston Battery of United Soccer League's first division. He also made three appearances (one start) during the Kansas City Wizards MLS Cup championship season in 2000.
