D.C. United team with America Supports You

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today it is joining America Supports You, an ongoing, nationwide program of the Department of Defense that helps showcase America's support for the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. By joining the America Supports You team, D.C. United is now furthering its commitment to supporting our troops.

"We are grateful for all the ways D.C. United supports our troops throughout the soccer season," said Allison Barber, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. "We are thrilled to have them join with our other Washington D.C. sports team members, the Washington Redskins, Capitals and Nationals, in promoting America Supports You and its member organizations' programs."

America Supports You worked with D.C. United during the team's Armed Forces Appreciation Day game against the New England Revolution on June 3. United fans were provided the opportunity to show our troops how much they care by writing message of support on America Supports You postcards. D.C. United promoted the America Supports You website on its scoreboard during the game, and included America Supports You PSA print advertising in its game program.

Since its launch in November of 2004 by the Department of Defense, the America Supports You program has welcomed over 225 grassroots organizations and more than 25 corporate and sports team sponsors to its team. Many America Supports You team members support the troops through letter writing, care packages, helping the wounded when they return home, assisting military families, sending an e-mail or kind gesture.
