Robert Ssejjemba

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today that the team has signed Robert Ssejjemba on loan from the Richmond Kickers (USL-2). A member of the Ugandan national team, Ssejjemba was a part of the United reserve team and its 4-1 victory over Real Salt Lake last Sunday, September 10, scoring three goals in the second half. The 26-year-old forward will travel with United to Chicago tomorrow and will be available for selection in Sunday's match against the Fire. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. ET before a national television audience on espn2.

"We are pleased to have concluded a deal to acquire Robert and we look forward to his contributions to our club," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper.

Ssejjemba, a native of Kampala, Uganda, has earned six caps - and scored two goals - with the full Ugandan National Team, including two World Cup qualifiers in June of 2005. He was a part of under-18 and under-20 and under-23 Ugandan National Teams before coming to the United States to attend Virginia Intermont College (NAIA) on a soccer scholarship. A 2004 graduate of Virginia Intermont, Ssejjemba was a two-year captain and a two-time All-American, totaling 75 goals and 36 assists over four seasons. He played for the Kalamazoo Kingdom (PDL) in 2004 and led the team in goals (10), assists (6), and points (26). In his rookie season with the Kickers in 2005, Ssejjemba scored three goals in 22 games. This season he led the team with 17 goals in 19 games, helping Richmond capture the United Soccer League's second division championship while earning recognition as the league's Most Valuable Player.
