D.C. United release Filomeno

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today the club and Major League Soccer have reached an agreement to release Lucio Filomeno from his contract so the forward can return to his native Argentina to play for Nueva Chicago, a club that was recently promoted to the First Division.

Filomeno joined the Black-and-Red near the end of the 2005 season, making a single regular season appearance on October 15 versus the Columbus Crew. He also played the second half in United's second leg playoff game with the Chicago Fire on October 30.

"We want to thank Lucio for his time at D.C. United," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."

In 2006, Fillomeno saw time in 11 matches (five starts), notching a goal and assist. His lone goal came in D.C.'s 5-1 thrashing of the Columbus Crew on May 31. After he joined the team in August of 2005, he saw time in just one regular season game and one playoff game. He played a total of 459 regular season minutes for the Black-and-Red.
