D.C. United have much on line vs. Revs

Troy Perkins

and Wolyniec scored on that day, a 3-2 win. It was also New York's first win against their Eastern Conference rivals since Oct. 8, 2005 at RFK Stadium.
• D.C. United head coach Tom Soehn made two changes to the team that played to a 3-3 draw with FC Dallas the weekend before. Ben Olsen was out through suspension and Jaime Moreno nursing an injury, as March Burch made his first league start with D.C. and Clyde Simms also came into the team, Soehn also rejuggling his lines.
• Here's Soehn's team (4-3-1-2): Troy Perkins - Devon McTavish, Bobby Boswell, Greg Vanney, Marc Burch (Stephen deRoux 73) - Clyde Simms (Nicholas Addlery 55), Brian Carroll, Joshua Gros - Christian Gomez - Luciano Emilio, Fred. Substitutes Not Used: Rod Dyachenko, Jeff Carroll, Domenic Mediate, Jay Nolly
• "We have no excuses. Whether we were shorthanded or not, it doesn't matter. The guys that are out there have an opportunity and we need to do better," Soehn said. " ... I didn't think we came out with the intensity we needed in the first half. "The second half was a little better, but we couldn't get it done."

TEAM NEWS
• Since their last league game, D.C. United secured passage to the semifinals of SuperLiga in a nailbiting conclusion, following a 1-0 loss to Houston Dynamo in their final group game. A victory would have put United through to the semifinals for certain, but Brian Ching's 50th-minute goal was the only scoring on the night. As it turned, United was safe after Club América defeated Monarcas Morelia 3-2 in the second game of the night, a result that ensured the two Mexican teams would be out of the competition.
• "It was our third game in seven games, same for them, so it's going to be sloppy. It's not going to be clean like it was four days ago," goalkeeper Troy Perkins said. "It's just something that we've got to deal with. I thought we did well, and they played pretty well. We just made one mistake, and at that level, that's going to cost you."
• Here's Soehn's team against Dynamo: Troy Perkins, Bobby Boswell, Marc Burch (Jaime Moreno 63), Joshua Gros, Devon McTavish, Ben Olsen, Brian Carroll (Clyde Simms 83), Rod Dyachenko (Guy-Roland Kpene 35), Christian Gomez, Fred (Bryan Namoff 79), Luciano Emilio.
• United opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Morelia. A masterful freekick from Christian Gomez put the Black-and-Red ahead in the seventh minute, but even a man down, a world-class goal from Diego Martinez pulled Monarcas level 11 minutes from the end.
• "Once again we did what we wanted to do, we got the early goal," said Bobby Boswell. "I thought we played pretty strong defensively. You've got to give them a lot of credit for fighting and scoring a world-class goal there, but we had chances to put the game away well before that ever happened and we just didn't do it."
• Then three nights later, United got the early goal but hung on after missing more subsequent chances, Rod Dyachenko's 12th-minute strike standing up as the only goal of the contest. United will now face the Los Angeles Galaxy in the semifinals on Aug. 15 at The Home Depot Center.
• The Dynamo match was also noteworthy because it brought the return of Jaime Moreno, who had missed United's last three matches with a hamstring strain. Over the course of the SuperLiga run, Marc Burch has stepped in the left back with Josh Gros moving to the right, as Greg Vanney has also been sidelined by injury.
