With MLS Cup being held at RFK Stadium this year, United has the unique opportunity to be only the third team in League history to play the championship game in its home stadium. United is the only club to have previously won MLS Cup in its home stadium, when it did so in front of more than 57,000 fans at MLS Cup 1997. D.C. earned a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids in 1997. The victory also marks the first time a professional sports franchise from Washington, DC has clinched a league title playing in the Nation's Capital.
