'D.C. United en Accion' returns to Telemundo Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. - For the fifth consecutive year, D.C. United, in partnership with WZDC Telemundo Washington, announced plans to broadcast a weekly 30-minute Spanish-language TV program throughout the 2007 Major League Soccer season. D.C. United en Accion will air every Saturday from 10:00-10:30 a.m. ET. The premiere episode will be shown on Saturday, April 14, prior to the Black-and-Red's home opener that evening versus the Kansas City Wizards.


"D.C. United en Accion has proved to be a valuable vehicle to share news and information on the club with our Hispanic fans," said United Sr. Vice president Stephen Zack. "With the help of our sponsors, this show continues to focus on the best organization in the League, both on and off of the field."


For the second consecutive year, the show will be produced by Fine Productions and this season, the show will have a new host, Telenoticias Washington sports anchor Gustavo Cherquis. Monday through Friday, Cherquis presents "Goles Y Mas,"a thorough overview of the latest headlines from the world of sports with a keen emphasis on local, national and international soccer. A veteran news reporter and highly regarded journalist, Cherquis covered the 2006 FIFA World Cup from Germany for Telenoticias Washington DC, and just recently returned from El Salvador where he covered the Central American Copa UNCAF championship for Telemundo Washington's viewers. Additionally, Cherquis has anchored Telemundo Network broadcasts for the Mexican National League. Prior to Telenoticias, Cherquis covered print stories in New York, and currently is the D.C. United beat writer for the Spanish edition of MLSnet.com.

D.C. United en Accion will bring fans the most comprehensive, in-depth D.C. United soccer news, with features, game analysis, and interviews with coaches and players. There will be a total of 32 episodes this year, running to November 17, the day before MLS Cup.
