D.C. United Academy update: May 5, 2008

D.C. United Academy results:
D.C. United's Under-16 and Under-18 Development Academy teams came out with three wins and one loss at Maryland Soccerplex on May 3-4, versus FC Westchester and Met Oval.

D.C. United's U-16 squad won both of their weekend matches, with Marcus Douglas and Lester Dewee scoring on Saturday against FC Westchester for a 2-0 win. Sunday, the U-16s came out with a 1-0 victory over Met Oval when Kennedy O'Shea got his first Academy action and scored a game-winning goal.

"Kennedy's work ethic has been great and all of his hard work is paying off," said D.C. United Director of Youth Development John Maessner. "He does very well in training and we got to see how being in the right environment can pay off for a player who is committed to becoming better."

Saturday, the U-18s failed to see the back of the net against FC Westchester for a 0-1 loss. Sunday, however, they were able to triumph over Met Oval 5-0, playing in front of a crowd which included many college and National team scouts. Prince Lapnet netted two goals for the squad, while Shane Cooke, Danillo Lima and Chris Hegngi added one each.

D.C. United's youth Academy teams will next face Potomac at home. The U16s will play on United's training field on Wednesday, May 7 while the U18s will have the chance to play at RFK Stadium on Thursday, May 8 at 4:45 p.m., just before D.C. United hosts Chicago Fire.

"The goal of our program is to produce players who will eventually be able to play with the first team in RFK," Maessner said. "We have players with that potential and it will be exciting to see them on Thursday playing for their first time in the stadium, knowing that there is the chance they could be playing with the first team in the not too distant future."
