D.C. United Academy Results: The D.C. United Academy teams were in North Carolina this past weekend for the US Soccer Developmental Academy Summer Showcase. While the results were mixed, United Director of Youth Development John Maessner was pleased with the way his players performed.

"I was very proud of how our teams played this weekend at the Summer Showcase," Maessner said. "We had a hard time finding the back of the net throughout the weekend but we were able to play very attractive soccer that was extremely enjoyable to watch."

The Under-16 team had the better results, defeating Chivas 2-0, falling to Miami 0-2 and winning over South Charlotte 2-0. The Under-18 squad came out with a 1-2 loss to Chivas, a 1-1 draw with Miami, and later fell 0-2 to South Charlotte.

The D.C. United Academy will now look to defend their MLS U17 Cup Championship in Denver from July 3-10. The Under-17 team comprised of players from both Under-16 and Under-18 teams, will train on Wednesday, July 2 and leave for Denver on Thursday.

"We are playing extremely well at the moment, with the majority of our players in very good form," Maessner added. "I am confident that we will play well enough to give us a very good chance, but will be proud of our group no matter what the outcome. We are extremely excited about the prospect of continuing to build on what we have accomplished and making our program even better for our players and staff for the upcoming year!"

Youth Team Tryouts: The D.C. United Academy will be holding the Second Annual Academy Youth Teams tryouts specifically targeting Latino youth in the metro D.C. area. Tryouts will be held on August 18 and 20 at the RFK Auxiliary Turf field from 5-7 p.m. ET, and will serve to identify the most promising and talented Latin-American players in the community to join the Academy teams. Cutoff date for the Under-16 team is January 1992 or after and for the Under-18 team is January 1990 or after. To participate, players must fill out the Youth Teams Waiver and Registration form found on www.dcunited.com and bring it with them to tryouts.
