WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today the club has traded veteran defender Brandon Prideaux to the Colorado Rapids for two third round SuperDraft picks - one in 2007 and another in 2008.
"At the end of the season Brandon requested a move closer to his home and this move will accommodate his request," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "Brandon was a great contributor for our club and we wish him the best of luck in the future."
Prideaux was a key member of United's defensive corps since he joined the team in 2001. The hard-working 30-year old made 116 appearances (106 starts) and logged nearly 10,000 minutes on the pitch for the Black-and-Red over the last five seasons. He was an important contributor during the club's 2004 MLS Cup championship run, as he saw time 23 games during the season. Though a nagging knee injury hampered his 2006 season, Prideaux managed to play in nine games (all starts). Prior to joining United, the Renton, Wash. native spent three seasons with the Kansas City Wizards where he helped the team to the 2000 MLS Cup championship.
