David W. Checketts honored by Muscular Dystrophy Association

SALT LAKE CITY (Wednesday, January 7, 2007) - David W. Checketts, owner of Real Salt Lake, was honored Thursday evening, February 8, at Rice-Eccles Stadium in the Tower Mezzanine and Scholarship Rooms during the Muscle Team Bash, a benefit dinner for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Utah.

Emceed by sports anchor Wesley Ruff of ABC4, the evening kicked off at 6:00 p.m. MT with a private VIP reception highlighting Checketts, as well as MDA sponsors and those served by MDA. Beginning at 7:00 p.m., the entire 2007 RSL squad and coaching staff, along with other local sports celebrities, joined Checketts at the sports-themed dinner.


The Bash also hosted local children with muscular dystrophy who presented awards to special guests for their contributions to the Utah community. The evening was filled with food, drinks, music, and silent auctions including a one week getaway to Cancun, autographed memorabilia, and an RSL Gift Basket featuring the game day experience for a young fan to be an official ball kid during an RSL home game. Guests also took their chances on the RSL Foosball table playing against the professional soccer players for a donation to MDA.


Katherine Fife, MDA staff, said the event was a success; David Checketts and RSL were a great fit at the fun filled benefit. Thursday night the MDA collected $10,000 in donations. After "The Bash" MDA calculated a total of $60,000 in donations.


The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a nonprofit health care organization providing free services to people living with muscle disease.
