Crew signs Brazilian forward Guilherme So

COLUMBUS, Ohio --
The Columbus Crew announced today that it has signed 21-year-old Brazilian forward Guilherme Só. Per club and league policy, no further terms of the deal were disclosed.

Prior to joining the Crew, Só (pronounced SAH) had played exclusively in his homeland, where he began his career in the youth system of Internacional RS, before moving to Gremio Porto Alegre RS in 2006. Following his time at Gremio, Só moved to G.E. Brasil de Pelotas, where he spent the 2007 season.

Só has been training with the Crew since its trip to Florida in February and registered a goal and an assist in preseason action. The goal was in the Black & Gold's 4-0 victory over Kansas City on Feb. 9 and he assisted on Duncan Oughton's game-winner in the Crew's 2-0 win over the University of South Florida on Feb. 16.

"Guilherme is a very technical player, who gives us another option up front," said Crew Head Coach Sigi Schmid. "He is also very active and works very hard and we're looking forward to seeing what he can do for us this season."

Founded by American sports pioneer Lamar Hunt, the Columbus Crew is Ohio's Major League Soccer club, anchoring a diverse sports and entertainment enterprise. One of the league's Charter Members and U.S. Open Cup champion in 2002, it will open its 13th season overall and 10th in first-of-its-kind Columbus Crew Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, March 29, when it plays host to Eastern Conference-rival Toronto FC.
