"U.S.-Mexican club competitions continue to grow and we value the opportunity to host a Mexican Premier Division club like Tecos in the midst of its season," said Crew General Manager Mark McCullers. "This should be a very entertaining match for our fans and a solid test for our young club."

Tecos UAG is currently 5-9-2 (17 pts.) and in sixth place in Group 1 of the Apertura season. Its roster features Jose de Jesus Corona, Mexico's backup goalkeeper at the 2006 FIFA World Cup; defender Joel Sanchez, a member of Mexico 1998 World Cup team; Mexican League legend Rodrigo "Pony" Ruiz; and forward Sammy Ochoa, a member of the U.S. Under-20 National Team squad coached by current Crew head coach Sigi Schmid at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship.

Tecos, short for tecolotes - or "owls" in English - is a member of the Mexican Premier Division and is associated with Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (Independent University of Guadalajara). The club plays its home matches at Estadio 3 de Marzo in Zapopan, a municipality in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara. The stadium's name, which translates to "Stadium Third of March" is a tribute to the anniversary of the University's inauguration on March 3, 1935.

Founded in 1971 by a group of UAG students, Tecos has been a member of the Mexican Premier Division since 1975. Much of the Owls' success to date occurred in the mid-90's, as the club won the Mexican Championship in 1993-94 and the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 1995.

The Crew is 7-2-2 all-time in international exhibitions, the most recent being a 3-1 setback to Aston Villa FC of the English Premier League on July 28 at Crew Stadium.

Founded by American sports pioneer Lamar Hunt, the Columbus Crew is Ohio's Major League Soccer club, anchoring a diverse sports and entertainment enterprise. One of the league's Charter Members and the U.S. Open Cup champion in 2002, it is completing its 12th season overall and ninth in first-of-its-kind Columbus Crew Stadium.
