Crew defeats Tecos UAG 2-0 in international friendly

COLUMBUS, Ohio. - The Columbus Crew officially closed out its 12th season with a 2-0 victory over Tecos UAG of the Mexican Premier Division Tuesday at Crew Stadium. The Crew controlled play throughout the duration of the match and used goals by Adam Moffat in the 24th minute and Alejandro Moreno in the 50th to dispatch the "Owls" of Tecos UAG.

After missing on several scoring opportunities early in the first half, Columbus finally drew first blood midway through the first stanza. After Robbie Rogers' pass into the middle of the field was deflected by a Tecos defender, Alejandro Moreno ran onto the loose ball and was just able to touch the ball along to a wide-open Moffat on the left side of the box. Moffat struck quickly, slotting the ball past the charging Tecos goalkeeper to give Columbus the early lead, which it would carry into the half.

Following halftime, the Crew maintained intense pressure on the Tecos defense and it would pay off early in the second half. Off an Eddie Gaven corner kick in the 50th minute, Marcos Gonzalez snapped a header towards the Tecos goal, but was denied by the feet of a well-positioned defender. However, Moreno found himself in the right place at the right time, as the Tecos defender could not locate the loose ball and Moreno blasted the ball into the back of the net for the second and final goal of the night.

Both coaches would substitute liberally in the remainder of the second half, with Columbus nearly notching its third goal on several impressive, but unsuccessful, build-ups. The Crew defense would continue its solid effort for the remainder of the match, maintaining the clean sheet and preserving the 2-0 victory.

The win improves the Crew's record to 8-2-2 all-time in international exhibitions.
