Crew 1, Red Bulls 0 -- quote sheet

COLUMBUS CREW 1, NEW YORK RED BULLS 0

COLUMBUS CREW HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID

On his team's performance against New York:
"I said at the start of the season that what this teem needed was to get a couple wins just to get confidence. I thought today, overall, when you look at the whole game, we were the better team. All we talked about at halftime was, 'don't get impatient, don't get anxious, and the goal will come.'"

On his team's current level of confidence:
"Confidence is a big part of it because now you are in the mindset when you step on the field when it's 0-0 at halftime, that 'OK, we'll get it' versus 'oh, I hope nothing happens.' So, it becomes a different story. Tonight as well, with Jacob Thomas, and his first minutes of the year, you can see how much he impacted the game. He brings an element of fear to the opponent, and adds an element of attacking danger for us, so that was a real plus for us tonight."

COLUMBUS CREW FORWARD KEI KAMARA

On scoring the game-winning goal:
"Andy's [Herron] really good with the ball, playing on the outside. I knew whenever he does a couple of moves, he's going to look into the box and come with the ball. It was good to get up there and I was just thinking about putting the ball down and that's what I did."

COLUMBUS CREW DEFENDER CHAD MARSHALL

On avenging the 4-0 loss in New York earlier this season:
"Obviously, the result in New York wasn't what we wanted and we definitely showed that by picking up a good three points tonight. ... Yeah, we're missing some guys, but in all fairness, Kei [Kamara] and Jacob [Thomas] stepped in and did an incredible job, so there wasn't any drop off at all."

On defending Juan Pablo Angel:
"We watch film on our opponents every week and we know he's a good player so you just have to stay focused and stay with him for 90 minutes, because it's that one second you lose him or give him an extra foot, that he punishes you, so I just told myself to stay focused and I thought we did a pretty good job on him."

COLUMBUS CREW DEFENDER FRANKIE HEJDUK

On the team's mindset coming into the game:
"We wanted to come out and play our game. We've been playing well and we weren't worried to much about them. We knew that as long as we played our game and stuck to our game plan that we were going to do well."

On the team's energy at Crew Stadium:
"Whenever you play at home, you have that extra edge and finally we're having that edge. Earlier on in the season, we just weren't getting over that hump. We were playing well, but we were getting ties when we should have got wins and losses when we should have got ties, and now the breaks are coming our way."

NEW YORK RED BULLS HEAD COACH BRUCE ARENA

On his overall thoughts for the game:
"I thought they had a better energy level tonight. I thought our first 15 minutes of the game was pretty poor. We settled in and played a little bit better, the last 20 to 25 minutes of the first half. The second half, we played OK. In a game like that, neither team is real dangerous going forward, but there's a lot of energy in the game. I thought Columbus, on the night, brought more energy to the field than we did."

On the play of forward Juan Pablo Angel:
"He lost a lot of balls; the service to him wasn't good. He didn't do a good job. I think their center backs, give them credit, did a good job on Angel. At the other end of the field, [Alejandro] Moreno was a little better at his role than Angel was for us. Moreno did a good job holding the ball up, and over 90 minutes in a game, that adds up to a little bit more possession for your team and gives you a little bit more reserve. We were too often caught chasing the game, because we couldn't hold on to the ball."

NEW YORK RED BULLS FORWARD JUAN PABLO ANGEL

On the game:
"I think that they were better over the 90 minutes and they full deserved the win."

On the team's performance:
"I think they played better. It was a very tight game for the first 45 minutes. In the second half, I think we played a little bit better than in the first half but overall, they were the better team."

NEW YORK RED BULLS MIDFIELDER/FORWARD SANTINO QUARANTA

On joining the Red Bulls:
"It's a great organization to be with. I'm very happy to be here with the staff and the players. I'm upset with the result tonight. We'll get it right this week and get ready for Houston."

On coming into the game with his new teammates:
"Obviously, it's a game and you go out there and give it your best. In the heat of the game, you work hard and do your best with the guys out there. I'll get to know them this week but it was good to get out there and play with the guys."

On playing for Bruce Arena:
"It's very nice. I worked with him at the [U.S.] national team and he seemed to get the best out of me. I'm very excited to work with him."
