Copa del Rey continues with semi-finals

Under the radar Valencia (R) hope to slide past La Liga super power Barcelona (L) in the Copa del Rey semi-final.

BARCELONA - Valencia winger Joaquin Sanchez is confident his side can pull off a shock victory when they take on treble-chasing Barcelona in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday.

Seven places and 19 points separate the two sides in the Primera Liga, with Barca closing the gap behind league leaders Real Madrid to just two points at the weekend.

But Sanchez believes that his side must treat the game like any other if they want to have any hope of triumphing at Barca.

"We mustn't be afraid of any team," said the Spain winger. "This is an important time but we feel we are playing good football.

"We have the excitement and the desire to play a good game and get ourselves a good result.

"Barca are going through an excellent run and they are always very dangerous. What is clear is that we mustn't lose our heads because then they can score.

"We have to be focused, play together and take the game to them.

"The dressing room is strong and we are six points off the Champions League places.

"What's most important is that the dressing room has the desire to do things.

"We know that we're going to a difficult ground and I don't think Barca will let go of such an opportunity, especially if they use their usual players."

However, Valencia have every reason to be hopeful they can get a result at the Nou Camp.

The six-time cup winners have one of the best away records in the Primera Liga and would be much higher in the league were it not for their poor home form.

Carlos Marchena has joined Ruben Baraja, Alexis Ruano, Fernando Morientes and Luis Miguel on the Valencia treatment table, but David Villa and Ivan Helguera return to the squad after serving one-match suspensions at the weekend.

Yaya Toure and Rafael Marquez are Barca's only injury worries.
