Comcast, United broadcast game to raise money for The Children's Inn

Bethesda, MD - Comcast SportsNet, the leader in local sports television, in partnership with D.C. United, announced today a special broadcast for the Aug. 22 match against New York Red Bulls to raise money for The Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Comcast SportsNet and D.C. United's Christian Gomez are both partners in The Inn's Sports Ambassador Campaign, which is working to raise $400,000 through a "93-a-Night" campaign to cover the stays of the more than 1,400 families who will travel to The Inn for treatment this year.

On Wednesday, Aug. 22, Comcast SportsNet will run features and interviews with families staying at The Inn and other Sports Ambassadors during the game to educate viewers about the amazing services provided by The Children's Inn to families from around the country with children who are seriously ill. Children come from all over the world to stay at The Inn, located in Bethesda, Md., with their families in a healing environment while receiving groundbreaking medical treatments at NIH. During the game, the network and United will provide viewers with information on how to donate to the campaign's "93-A-Night" effort, which is the cost of housing one family per night at The Inn.

Comcast SportsNet and D.C. United are also donating tickets to the game for families staying at The Children's Inn and providing the families with a special meet-and-greet with the players following the game. The network will also be running public service announcements to bring awareness to the campaign, and working with Comcast Cable to run the PSAs on all networks throughout the Montgomery and Prince George's County viewing areas.

"As a longstanding partner of D.C. United, recently signing a four-year broadcast deal with the club, it is important that we also work together on community efforts that mean a lot to both organizations, such as The Children's Inn Sports Ambassador Campaign," said Rebecca Schulte, senior vice president and general manager of Comcast SportsNet. "Christian and all of the other Sports Ambassadors have been amazing to work with, and we look forward to continuing to work with them throughout the year to raise money for The Inn."

Gomez, along with Washington Wizards All-Star Caron Butler, Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell, Washington Mystics All-Star Alana Beard, Washington Nationals pitcher Chad Cordero, and Washington Capitals goalie Olie Kolzig, serve as Sports Ambassadors for this yearlong campaign. Comcast SportsNet is the sole television partner for the campaign.
