Colorado's Mathis suspended, fined

The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today suspended Colorado Rapids midfielder Clint Mathis one game and fined him $750 for violent conduct and failure to leave the field in an orderly fashion in the Rapids 3-1 loss to the New England Revolution on Saturday, Sept. 30.


Mathis was given a red card for violent conduct on New England's Avery John in the 65th minute of the match. The red card carries an automatic one game suspension and $250 fine. After further review of the incident, the disciplinary committee handed out an additional one-game suspension and fined Mathis $500 for the violent conduct incident as well as an additional $250 for his actions after receiving the red card.


Mathis will serve the automatic one-game red card suspension on Saturday, Oct. 7 when Colorado faces the New York Red Bulls and will miss the Rapids final regular season game versus the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, Oct. 14.
