Coach calls for Ronaldinho's best

Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard has challenged Ronaldinho to reproduce his best form ahead of Saturday's Primera Liga clash with title rivals Sevilla.

Rijkaard substituted the Brazilian in last week's goalless draw with Osasuna and withdrew the player again in Wednesday's 3-0 Champions League win over Lyon.

The Dutch coach nevertheless insists he will stick by his star and hopes the forward will rediscover his best form in the next few weeks.

"I believe Ronaldinho is capable of doing the things he has done in previous years," he said.

"I think we can get him back (to his best). It's all about action-reaction and sometimes that implies a bit of suffering, but when he reacts he is a phenomenal player.

"There is no doubting the quality he has, but he must react and demonstrate that quality."

Rijkaard maintained that Ronaldinho is a "very, very important player for the squad", but defended his decision to substitute the South American.

"He is one of the best players in the world and he has shown that, but sometimes a change is necessary to add new life to the team," he said.

Despite being hauled off in the last two matches, Ronaldinho will keep his place on the left of Barcelona's three-pronged attack, alongside Frenchman Thierry Henry and Argentinian Lionel Messi.

Henry bagged his first competitive Barcelona goal against Lyon on Wednesday, but Messi was the undoubted star in that match, scoring one and forcing an own goal as the Catalans began their Champions League campaign in style.

However, Rijkaard's side have been less impressive in the Primera Liga this term, dropping valuable points on the road at Osasuna and Racing Santander.

Barcelona are already four points behind bitter rivals Real Madrid in the table and Rijkaard admits the game against Sevilla is "very important" for his side.

"Sevilla are a great team and this match will be very difficult," he said.

"We haven't done so well against them recently, so I hope we can get a win this time. It is a very important game for us and we need the three points."

Young forwards Giovani Dos Santos and Bojan Krkic keep their places in the squad and will wait for an opportunity from the bench.

Captain Carles Puyol and striker Samuel Eto'o remain sidelined.

Sevilla have won both of their Primera Liga matches by a 4-1 scoreline, but were convincingly beaten 3-0 by Arsenal on their Champions League debut this week.

Coach Juande Ramos, recently linked with moves to both Chelsea and Tottenham, hopes his side can react positively against Barcelona on Saturday.

"We understand that we didn't play well against Arsenal, but we have to look forward now. Barcelona are a very important side and will be tough to beat at the Nou Camp, but if we play to our capabilities, anything can happen," he said on Friday.

Sevilla saw their second Primera Liga game - against Osasuna - postponed following the tragic death of their full-back Antonio Puerta.

The Andalusian side sit second in the table, three points behind early pace-setters Real Madrid, but with a game in hand.

The team have no injury worries ahead of the game against Barcelona.
