Chivas USA forward Ante Razov named to MLS All-Star 'First XI'

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA forward Ante Razov, Major League Soccer's leading scorer with 11 goals, was selected as one of the starters for the 2006 MLS All-Star Game. The MLS All-Stars will square off against Chelsea FC, the reigning champion of the English Premier League, on August 5 at TOYOTA PARK in Bridgeview, the Chicago Fire's new stadium. The match, sponsored by Sierra Mist, will be broadcast live on ESPN starting at 3:00 p.m. PT.

"We would like to congratulate Ante on his selection to the MLS All-Star team," said Chivas USA General Manager Whit Haskel. "Ante has been a valuable asset to our organization. As a Southland native, he understands Chivas USA's mission here in Southern California, and we look forward to his continued contributions to our club in the months and years ahead."

A Los Angeles native, Ante Razov is one of only a few MLS players who were in the league in its inception in 1996. The 32-year-old striker was an All-Star in 2000 and 2003 while playing for the Chicago Fire, and has become one of the best acquisitions for the Red-and-White. He has played 16 regular season games, starting all of them, and has six assists to add to his 11 goals. He is the third leading scorer in the history of MLS, with 95 goals, and trails his All-Star game striking partner Jamie Moreno by eight goals in the all-time scoring chart.

Ante Razov and the two New England Revolution players on the All-Star team will not be able to play in the match in Bridgeview as a result of the doubleheader in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on August 6, when the New England Revolution will face Chivas USA in a doubleheader also featuring Chivas Guadalajara versus FC Barcelona. The coach of the All-Star team, Peter Nowak from D.C. United, will name replacements for these players and the rest of the squad on Monday.
