Chivas USA of Major League Soccer today announced its schedule of postseason matches and training sessions for the remainder of 2007. Following a successful campaign in which the Red-and-White finished atop MLS's Western Conference standings with a 15-7-8 record (W-L-T) in the young franchise's third year of existence, Chivas USA will play a series of exhibition matches in California and Mexico before breaking camp in early December.
This Saturday, Nov. 17, Chivas USA faces parent club Chivas de Guadalajara at Guadalajara's Estadio Jalisco in a benefit match for residents of Mexican states of Tabasco and Chiapas, where recent flooding has destroyed countless homes and prompted the evacuation of over a million inhabitants. With a 9-4-4 record (W-L-T), Chivas de Guadalajara finished atop Group 3 of Mexico's Apertura 2007 season and will sit out the wildcard round this weekend's playoffs before facing San Luis in the quarterfinals the following week.
Chivas USA's roster for Saturday's match at Estadio Jalisco will be announced shortly.
Following Saturday's match and a shortened practice week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, Chivas USA will return to training on Monday, Nov. 26 ahead of an exhibition match versus Premier Development League side Fresno Fuego. The match, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 p.m. PT at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, California, marks the second meeting between Chivas USA and the Fuego this year; on Feb. 25, Chivas USA claimed a 5-0 win over the PDL side in a preseason exhibition in front of 7,547 fans, the largest crowd for a Fuego game at Chukchansi Park.
Following the SuperDraft and Supplemental Draft in January, Chivas USA begins preseason training in February 2008 ahead of the club's highly anticipated fourth MLS season.
