Chivas USA and American Red Cross team up in 2007 to remind fans: Soccer and saving lives ... It's in Your Blood

Southern California - Chivas USA and American Red Cross Blood Services in Southern California have again joined forces to invite you to give the gift of life and donate blood this summer. Following the inaugural "It's in Your Blood" campaign in 2006, Los Angeles' Major League Soccer club and the Red Cross are renewing this successful series of blood drives in 2007. To kick off this year's campaign, Chivas USA will host three Red Cross blood drives in March, starting next week, where a Chivas USA player and the ChivaFighter, the team's mascot, will be on hand to sign autographs.

"Chivas USA takes its commitment to the community very seriously and we are pleased to renew our successful collaboration with American Red Cross Blood Services," said Chivas USA President and Co-Owner Antonio Cué. "We hope that Chivas fans and soccer fans in general come out to donate life-saving blood, meet Chivas USA's players and support their team in Los Angeles."

The Red Cross - Chivas USA 2007 "It's in Your Blood" drives will be held:

  • Wednesday, March 14 - The Red Cross Chapter, 5051 East 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA, , 12 p.m. - 7 p.m.

  • Wednesday, March 21 - The Red Cross Donor Center, 100 Red Cross Circle, Pomona, CA (next to the Cal Poly campus), 12 p.m. - 7 p.m.

  • Wednesday, March 28 - The Red Cross Donor Center, 1518 Brookhollow Drive, Suite 15, Santa Ana, CA, 12 p.m. - 7 p.m.

  • "Most people in good health aged 17 and over and weighing at least 110 pounds can donate," explains Clifford Numark, director of donor recruitment for the American Red Cross Blood Services, Southern California Region. "Unfortunately, few people realize the grave need or the constant need for donations to ensure an adequate blood supply. The Red Cross thanks Chivas USA for helping the Red Cross ensure that enough blood will be available for the hundreds of patients in our communities who need blood and blood products to survive accidents, heart transplants, sickle cell anemia treatments and other ailments."

Everyone who signs up to donate at any of the three Chivas blood drives in March will receive a free ticket to a Chivas USA home game. In addition, donors will all have the opportunity to meet a Chivas player and the ChivaFighter.
