Chivas captures 1-0 victory over D.C. United

CARSON, Calif. - Chivas USA captured a 1-0 win against a Major League Soccer opponent for the second time this preseason, topping D.C. United this afternoon at the Track and Field Stadium at The Home Depot Center. This is the third win in four preseason games for the Red-and-White, who beat the New York Red Bulls by the same score on February 12.

A goal early in the second half from Chivas USA youth product Arnaldo Salazar was the only scoring of the game. Chukwudi Chijinju received a long ball behind the defense on the right side and took a touch into the box before laying the ball across the face of the goal for a sliding Salazar to finish.

Goalkeepers Brad Guzan and Eric Reed combined for the shutout for Chivas USA, with Reed doing well to smother a breakaway midway through the second half.

Chivas USA's next preseason match comes this Saturday, Feb. 23, when the Red-and-White squares off against the Columbus Crew in Cougar Stadium at the College of the Canyons in Valencia at 5:00 p.m. All proceeds from the match go to the non-profit Michael Hoefflin Foundation, which provides financial and emotional support to children and their families facing childhood cancer in the Santa Clarita Valley.
