Ching undergoes successful surgery

Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching underwent successful surgery this morning to treat a torn right lateral meniscus.

It took 45 minutes for Dynamo team Doctor David Lintner to perform the procedure at Houston Methodist Hospital.

"We did not encounter any problems (with the operation)", said Lintner. "We are optimistic, and feel that Brian (Ching) should have a rapid recovery."

Ching originally injured his right knee during the All-Star game. An MRI was later conducted, which confirmed the diagnosis. In spite of his injury, Ching chose to play on Saturday's 1-0 victory against FC Dallas.

Ching, Houston's leading scorer with 10 goals in 16 games played this season, is expected begin rehabilitation immediately, and to miss approximately four weeks of action. Houston currently stands in second place in the Western Conference, with 35 points, four behind FC Dallas.
