Ching revels in Gold Cup victory

HOUSTON - Brian Ching is no stranger to championships.

Last Sunday, the U.S. men's national team, including Houston Dynamo's own Ching and Ricardo Clark, beat Mexico 2-1 to bring home the United States' fourth CONCACAF Gold Cup trophy.

In describing the Gold Cup victory, Ching was overcome with emotion.

"It felt fantastic; I mean, it was unbelievable," Ching said. "They are our most bitter rivals, and it made it that much sweeter to win. I also think it was a very entertaining game, for everyone watching on both ends, and I will remember that game for the rest of my life."

Ching has won MLS Cup not once but twice, once with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2003, and most recently with Dynamo in 2006. One might think that another win would be just another 'notch on the belt', but Ching doesn't see it that way.

"I put winning the Gold Cup right on par with winning the MLS Cup," he said. "I played with a national team and won a huge tournament. I don't think that happens very often and the feeling never gets old."

Now that Gold Cup is over, Ching is taking some much needed and well deserved time off.

"I am just relaxing and spending some quality with my wife before I have to get back into the swing of things with MLS," he said.
