Champs celebrate big win with fans

The Dynamo and their fans celebrate their second consecutive MLS Cup Championship.

The fans of Houston thanked the MLS Cup champion Dynamo and congratulated them on winning their second consecutive Major League Soccer championship with a rally on the steps of Houston's City Hall on Tuesday night.

Thousands of Dynamo fans attended the rally, along with Houston mayor Bill White and many Houston city council members, including city councilman Adrian Garcia and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee among others.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the effort, fight and lack of quit that epitomizes the Houston Dynamo squad and head coach Dominic Kinnear himself," said team president Oliver Luck.

During the rally, Houston native and hip-hop superstar Mike Jones performed as well as Latin band Orquesta Samerum.

Kinnear gave all the credit for the repeat to his players.

"I want to thank the players," Kinnear said. "Without the players, we're not here tonight celebrating two championships.

"You got to love it," Kinnear shouted, getting the more than 2,500 in attendance cheering.

Several times during the celebration the fans in attendance asked "Where's our stadium? Where's our stadium?" towards White and the city council members in attendance. Garcia had an answer.

"Let's make it happen," Garcia said as the raucous gathering shows its support.

A $70-$80 million soccer stadium is being negotiated between the city and Dynamo on the east side of downtown.

The night was a great way to celebrate the championships and the MLS Cup trophies Dynamo had in their grip.

"This is great," said Dynamo forward Joseph Ngwenya, who scored the game-tying goal in the MLS Cup Final victory against New England. "It's an honor to be here with the fans. They have been great all season."
