Champions League: Milan, Chelsea march on

AC Milan's Kaka, claiming he wants to be an evangelical priest, praises the heavens for Celtic's win Wednesday.

Chelsea booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a convincing 4-0 victory away to Norwegian side Rosenborg.

Didier Drogba, back in the team after missing the Barclays Premier League trip to Derby on Saturday through injury, blasted the Blues in front and added a second in the 20th minute.

A free-kick by Brazilian defender Alex five minutes before the break made victory all but certain for Avram Grant's team, and Joe Cole's second-half goal was the icing on the cake.

Schalke and Rosenborg will now fight it out for second place in Group B's final match day next month. Valencia are out of last-16 contention with a match to go after a disastrous campaign - which continued with a goalless draw against Schalke at the Mestalla tonight.

Liverpool's 4-1 win over Group A leaders Porto means they now know they need a victory away to Marseille next month to reach the knockout phase.

Fernando Torres headed the Reds in front inside 20 minutes, but Lisandro Lopez responded in kind from a Przemyslaw Kazmierczak cross delivered from the left.

The fear of their fate being taken out of their own hands going into the final game made the Reds nervy. But Torres restored their lead (78) with a calm finish after escaping his marker, and Steven Gerrard wrapped up the win with a penalty after Milan Stepanov hand-balled. Peter Crouch even added a scrappy fourth late on.

An 88th-minute goal from Bobo proved the difference as Besiktas beat Marseille 2-1 in Turkey.

Rodrigo Tello put the Istanbul club in front, but Nigerian Taye Taiwo equalised for the French side in the 65th minute.

A draw would have eliminated the hosts, but Bobo scored to keep them in the hunt going into the final round of matches.

Celtic's last-gasp 2-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk meant European champions AC Milan qualified for the last 16 with a 1-1 draw at Benfica.

A point in the San Siro next month will be enough for Celtic to join them as former Rossoneri player Massimo Donati scored a late, late winner at Parkhead tonight.

An early Brandao goal for Shakhtar shocked the Hoops. But Czech Jiri Jarosik volleyed Celtic level on the stroke of half-time, and Donati won it at the death.

Carlo Ancelotti's Milan side forged ahead on the quarter-hour mark through Andrea Pirlo, who also scored when the sides met at the San Siro. But Benfica hit back through Maxi Pereira (20).

Group C is well poised, all four sides still in with a shout of qualification going into matchday six.

Werder Bremen beat Real Madrid 3-2 at the Weserstadion. The German side led through an early goal from Swedish striker Markus Rosenberg, but Brazilian star Robinho levelled in the 14th minute for Real.

Boubacar Sanogo put Werder back in front five minutes before the break - and Aaron Hunt made it 3-1 (58), before Ruud van Nistelrooy cut the deficit to one 14 minutes later.

Olympiacos won 2-1 away to Lazio.
