Boca Juniors hand Wizards a loss

Eric Kronberg

The Kansas City Wizards, playing without key players Jimmy Conrad, Eddie Johnson and Kevin Hartman, played solidly against Argentinean power Boca Juniors Monday in a 2-0 loss on a beautiful 80-degree day in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Play was fast-paced and end-to-end throughout the first half, with both sides registering numerous goal-scoring opportunities. Kansas City had five solid chances, but the Boca 'keeper played well enough to keep the Wizards off the scoreboard at the half.

Wizards goalkeeper Eric Kronberg filled in well for the injured Hartman, making four quality saves that included two breakaway chances in the first half. He made another two stops after halftime, but allowed a goal in the 73rd minute on a great strike from Boca.

Kansas City made mass substitutions in the 75th minute, bringing in Chris Konopka, Shavar Thomas, AJ Godbolt, Zourab Tsiskaridze, Ryan McMahen, Willy Guadarrama and Michael Kraus.

Boca scored in the 85th minute to round out the scoring.
