Behind the Badge: Youth on center stage

The D.C. United U-16 team will be playing Maryland's ODP 90s group on Monday on the turf auxiliary field at RFK at 6 p.m. ET. Although the ODP team is a bit older, United's U-16s are strong and it should prove to be a competitive match featuring some of the area's best young players. College coaches from schools in the Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. area have been invited to attend the game.

United Soccer Club update
The Eagles won their second game in a row in the U-10 Capitol Hill Soccer League last Saturday, beating the Purple Panthers 2-0. The team recorded its first-ever shutout as three players shared goalkeeping duties. USC is now 2-1-1 in their league, but more importantly, the kids have learned a lot about soccer and have had a lot of fun participating in the after school program.

The other half of the program, a small-side league for younger children, has expanded its operations to a second location at Clubhouse 11 in Southeast D.C, a facility affiliated with the Boys and Girls Club.

CONCACAF Champions' Cup update: Chivas vs. Pachuca CF
Chivas hosted Pachuca CF in the first leg of the all Mexican final for the 2007 CONCACAF Champions' Cup at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara on April 18.

Juan Carlos Cacho opened the scoring for Pachuca CF in the 21st minute with a goal from the edge of the box, but Omar Bravo leveled it for CD Guadalajara a minute before halftime. Ramon Morales sped down the left wing and hit a flawless cross into the center of the penalty area where Bravo proceeded to net his second goal of the night in the 67th minute, giving Chivas the lead. Chivas celebrations were cut short, however, when Marvin Cabrera dribbled around a defender and scored the equalizer for the Tuzos with eight minutes remaining in the game.

The second leg of the final is scheduled to take place at Pachuca's Estadio Hidalgo on April 25, with the winner qualifying for the FIFA Club World Cup to be played in Japan this December. The runner-up will be one of the three CONCACAF invitees to the Copa Nissan Sudamericana later this year.

The CONCACAF Champions' Cup Final will be broadcast on television by the Fox Sports International regional programming channels (Fox Soccer Channel - USA; Fox Sports en Español - USA; Fox Sports Latin America Northern Cone - Caribbean, Central America & Mexico).
