Behind the Badge: United for the U.S.

Bryan Namoff

Bryan Namoff made his first international appearance for the U.S. men's national team against Denmark on Saturday, coming in as a substitute in the 63rd minute for Chris Albright.

The six-year MLS veteran made an immediate impact in stabilizing the right side of the U.S. defense to ensure that the Danes would not be able to fight their way back into the game. The 27-year old was one of four U.S. players to earn his first cap in the game.

MLS Defender of the Year Bobby Boswell also played in the game, earning his second cap and a starting nod. The Tampa, Fla., native had a strong performance, anchoring a defense that only surrendered one goal. He continues to make strides in building his case for being a regular in the U.S. national team.

Brian Carroll, Troy Perkins and Josh Gros, the other United players in the U.S. camp, did not dress for the match.

Arguez helps U-20s
D.C. United draftee Bryan Arguez made his first appearance in the U.S. under-20 men's natinal team's World Cup qualifying campaign in a 5-0 blowout of group hosts Panama.

Arguez came in during the 70th minute and played well in central midfield. In his limited time on the field, Arguez looked composed controlling the ball in tight spaces and made several smart, accurate passes.

The team finished undefeated with a 2-0-1 record in Group A and, along with Panama, advances to the U-20 World Cup to be played in Canada this summer.

The Godfather
For the first time in D.C. United history, two members of the Black-and-Red staff have tied the knot. Ellie Frias (who has been with United for seven years) and Jason Amaguana (three years) met while Amaguana was an intern.

The couple had the good fortune of having the 2006 Honda MLS MVP Christian Gomez and his wife, Claudia, serve as their Godparents.

In this role, the Gomezes are asked to serve as mentors to the newly-married couple and provide guidance throughout their marriage. The entire Gomez family was involved in the ceremony, as Christian's son Gabriel was ring bearer and daughter Agustina served as the flower girl.

Amaguana and Frias paid homage to their United roots, using a black and white theme for the reception and providing chocolate soccer balls as a treat for their guests.

President and CEO Kevin Payne, United technical director Dave Kasper, head coach Tom Soehn and numerous other members of the front office were in attendance to help the couple celebrate.
