Behind the Badge: Supporting VT

Bobby Boswell

On Monday, D.C. United launched its Virginia Tech jersey auction, which includes the 18 jerseys worn by the players at Saturday's game versus the Columbus Crew. The special edition maroon kits have been autographed by the player who wore them and include the VT memorial ribbon on the left sleeve. Today, D.C. United's co-managing partners - Will Chang and Victor MacFarlane - upped the ante, offering a challenge to United's supporters. Each has committed to making a contribution, matching the final dollar amount for the player jersey that achieves the highest bid. The auctions conclude next Monday (May 7). Bid now >

Additionally, Chang and MacFarlane have had two additional VT tribute jerseys made for the auction that include their respective names. Chang's jersey includes the number 88 (Bid now >), while MacFarlane's sport number 77 (Bid now >). Each has autographed his respective jersey.

All proceeds from the auctions will be donated directly to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund, which was created to offer assistance and support to the families of the victims. Should you wish to make a direct donation to the fund, please click here >

USC rolls on
Last Saturday (April 28) the USC Eagles beat the Tigers 6-1. The result gives the team a streak of three wins in a row.

"This game is when it all came together for us," said USC head coach Judah Cooks. "I never thought the team would or could play as well as they did. There was passing, skill and teamwork. We were all really proud of them"

Champions' Cup
After 120 minutes of scoreless play last Thursday, Pachuca earned the CONCACAF Champions' Cup title when they defeated CD Guadalajara 7-6 on penalty kicks. The final opened with a 2-2 the previous week in Guadalajara, but unlike most international tournaments away goals are not used as a tiebreaker. Pachuca will not represent CONCACAF at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in December. United lost to Chivas in the semifinal round by a 3-2 two-game score.
