Behind the Badge: San Antonio

Jaime Moreno and D.C. are in San Antonio for the Texas Pro Soccer Festival.

D.C. United is currently in San Antonio, TX in its final leg of pre-season, as the club prepares for it's March 12 CONCACAF Champions' Cup match versus Harbour View FC (Jamaica). The team has been staying in downtown San Antonio, but training several miles north of the city in the city of Schertz. Several players are on trial, including Dane Murphy, Galen Thompson, David Blumer, Cezar Hermenegildo, Josh Gardner and Santino Quaranta. After four full days of training, the team will get its first game action on Wednesday when it faces Chivas USA in a scrimmage. Wednesday's game is followed by match-ups with Toronto FC (on Friday) and the Houston Dynamo (on Sunday). Games will be played Steele High School in Cibolo, TX.

Spurs outing
On Thursday night, United's players and staff will head to the AT&T Center to watch the San Antonio Spurs tak on the Indiana Pacers. With three Argentines on the roster (Marcelo Gallardo, Franco Niell and Gonazlo Peralta), the Spurs can likely count on at least a few a United players rooting for the home team - and fellow Argentine Manu Ginobli. Tip-off for the game is 8 p.m. ET.


Youth Academy updates
D.C. United's U-18 Development Academy opened with a slow start to the Winter Showcase at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas on Feb. 17, with a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Magic. The Academy picked up pace quickly, with a big win over Greensboro. United dominated possession through much of the game, resulting in a 5-0 win. The 16s started the showcase off with a draw against the Chicago Magic. The Academy's second game fared better for the 16s, resulting in a win over Greensboro. Marcus Douglas scored in the 20th minute, and Peabo Doue iced the win in the 57th minute for the 2-1 win on Feb. 18th. On the 23rd, in the game against Potomac, United kept up their momentum with a 2-1 victory over Potomac.
