Beckham and others to host Harlem youth clinic

NEW YORK (Thursday, August 16, 2007) - Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham and defender Ty Harden along with New York Red Bulls forwards Juan Pablo Angel and Jozy Altidore will conduct a youth soccer clinic on Friday, Aug. 17 at 3:00 pm ET at Jacob Schiff Field in New York City.


The invite-only clinic will feature 30 youth players from FC Harlem and will celebrate Major League Soccer's support of creating opportunities for inner city youth. This event will launch a partnership between FC Harlem, MLS W.O.R.K.S., the U.S. Soccer Foundation and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation which will culminate in the construction of a world-class mini soccer field and new programming to benefit the children and families of Harlem, NY.


The youth soccer clinic will provide an excellent still and video photo opportunity for journalists. David Beckham and Galaxy Head Coach Frank Yallop will conduct a formal press conference at 5:00 pm ET at the InterContinental the Barclay New York hotel located at 48th and Lexington in Manhattan.

WHY: As part of a commitment to create more opportunities for urban youth and improve their lives through sport, MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the U.S. Soccer Foundation will announce the development of a world-class mini soccer field in Harlem. The field donation will be part of the U.S. Soccer Foundation's field grant program which is designed to assist in the building of synthetic grass soccer fields for soccer communities nationwide. MLS W.O.R.K.S. is Major League Soccer's community outreach initiative dedicated to addressing important social issues affecting youth, particularly the shortage of available field space in urban communities.
