Beckenbauer issues Lehmann warning

Jens Lehmann has been very public in his criticism of Arsene Wenger over his lack of playing time.

Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer has warned Jens Lehmann not to "make a mistake and start a confrontation" with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger following the goalkeeper's outburst this week.

Lehmann spoke out against Wenger this week following his demotion to the substitutes' bench in recent weeks, complaining of his "humiliation".

Compatriot Beckenbauer, however, has advised Lehmann to keep his counsel.

The World Cup-winning captain and manager told Premiere TV: "Lehmann must not make the mistake and start a confrontation with Wenger because he will not win it.

"Wenger is a fair coach who does not immediately take out a player when he has a bad day. Jens Lehmann needs to be patient until he gets his chance, but he will get it."

'Der Kaiser' also warned the goalkeeper that if he continues making such comments in public, "Lehmann will be playing for a different club by winter because Wenger will not accept that."
