On the team's slow start to the game:
"I thought in the first half, we were still on vacation for the first 15 minutes. Once you get into the rhythm of being second to the ball and being late and so forth, it's tough to get your rhythm in the first half. Also, in their midfield, on the inside, I thought Gareth Barry did a great job."

On his team's fitness level early in preseason:
"We looked very strong, but great credit to the Crew who really entered the second half and caused us filling problems, which gives us food for thought. Overall, it was very well played for us -- more than a workout -- we were stretched, and really stretched in the second half. I'm not as pleased. We know ourselves and we've got work to do."
On Columbus' second half surge:
"I thought that Columbus really came into it in the second half, especially [Duncan] Oughton. They gave us a really tough time of it and in many aspects I was really pleased about that because that shows you the work that needs to be done."
