What type of player do you see yourself as and what can you bring to the club?
I see myself as a good center midfielder. I can play both defensively and in the attack. I played more defensively for the last year, but feel I can play in either spot. I've learned a lot in college and think I've developed a pretty mature game that I can bring to United.
What did you expect coming into the draft and did you have an idea as to who might take you?
No, I just wanted to be at a place that saw me fitting into their system. I didn't really have a preference as to what team and didn't pay too much attention to what was being written and projected. My agent told me of a few possible teams that wanted me, but I really just wanted a chance to play somewhere.
What do you think about joining a club like D.C. United?
It's exciting, because it's the team that has the best history of all MLS teams. They play a nice game, which I think is favorable to my style. Being their first pick of the draft shows they believe in me. I was able to talk to the coaches on the phone and they sounded excited to have me and that makes me excited.
