America SCORES Cup game sold out

The New England Revolution Charitable Foundation announced Thursday that the 2008 America SCORES Cup, which will be played at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, June 28, has sold out. The annual event is expected to generate more than $100,000 in contributions to the inner-city after-school program, America SCORES New England.

"We're very pleased that this wonderful event has generated so much interest and generosity from the corporate community," New England Revolution General Manager and America SCORES New England board member Craig Tornberg said.

"We're very excited that 24 corporations and companies have joined us in raising money for this important organization. These companies have seen the great work done by America SCORES in helping under-privileged children in recent years. This work truly changes children's lives and the Revolution is proud to be associated with America SCORES and the America SCORES Cup."

"The New England Revolution is an invaluable partner in our efforts to make sure that every Boston Public School student has the opportunity to succeed through the empowerment of creative writing and service learning and the strong foundation of life skills, teamwork and leadership that soccer training provides," Dennis Wright, executive director of America SCORES New England, said. "This day allows us to give back to the individuals and companies who have stood behind us and our work through a once-in-a-lifetime tournament experience inside Gillette Stadium."

On Saturday, the 24 teams entered in the America SCORES Cup will field co-ed person teams that will compete in one of six four-team groups. The top team in each of the six groups and the best two remaining teams will advance to the single-elimination quarterfinals in the afternoon. The tournament final will be played at 4 p.m. on the Gillette Stadium field prior to the Revolution-Toronto FC match, scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

America SCORES New England is the only non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk urban youth develop life skills, literacy and health through soccer. America SCORES New England utilizes Boston Public School teachers to empower youth through the unique combination of athletics, creative writing and service learning. An affiliate of the national America SCORES program currently in 14 major American cities, America SCORES New England prepares the next generation of students for success throughout their lives, and helps youth realize their full potential as active citizens and leaders of their community.

The America SCORES Cup is a philanthropic corporate event that pits local companies and businesses against one another on the soccer field. Twenty-four teams made generous contributions to enter the America SCORES Cup and have the opportunity to earn corporate bragging rights in the Southern New England area. Additionally, a silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind sports experiences and exclusive luxury items is expected to draw additional donations to America SCORES New England.

Fans or co-workers interested in attending the America SCORES Cup are encouraged to attend the games at Gillette Stadium, but those planning on staying after 5 p.m. will need a ticket to the Revolution match to access the stadium field.
