Youth soccer teams from around the country will convene at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, TX, on Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. for the 2006 Jetix Kids Cup National Finals tournament. Organized by Major League Soccer, the action-packed, five-a-side national soccer event promotes the importance of kids leading active and healthy lifestyles, as well as the values of sportsmanship, fair play and the pure exhilarating fun of athleticism.
Teams of youth players ages 10-12 from across the U.S. who qualified in regional events held in Chicago, Denver and Washington, D.C. will compete in these spirited games. The boys and girls 2006 Jetix Kids Cup National Champions will receive an all expenses paid trip to Munich, Germany July 2-7 to compete in the Jetix Kids Cup International Finals against youth teams from 12 different countries.
The youth tournament will be attended by FC Dallas players Kenny Cooper, Dax McCarty, Ramon Nunez and Blake Wagner. After the tournament the 2006 Jetix Kids Cup participants will get to see these FC Dallas players and the rest of their team take on the 2005 MLS Cup Finalists New England Revolution at Pizza Hut Park. The 2006 Jetix Kids Cup National Champions will get the opportunity to take part in the pre-game ceremonies on the field.
"Jetix Kids Cup," an energetic series of interstitials, will highlight the fun and adventure from the regional tournaments and the finals. The interstitials will air the month of July during ABC Kids on the ABC Television Network and during Jetix programming blocks on Toon Disney.
Last year, the Jetix Kids Cup was an adventure of a lifetime for youth teams from around the United States and Latin America. The three day event took place in Columbus, OH and coincided with the 2005 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star game. The Jetix Kids Cup teams spent the weekend playing soccer, interacting with MLS stars, participating in All-Star weekend festivities and making new friends.
