Working out with FC Dallas

Chris Gbandi

LA MANGA, Spain --
TRAINING REPORT: As you would with the weather in Dallas, if you don't like the weather in La Manga, Spain, just wait a few minutes. The blue skies are back out and the temperature has risen from the upper 30s to the upper 50s in one day. However, after playing three matches in five days, the team had six young players and the goalkeepers train on the field today and put the rest of the players to work in the gym.

In the gym, the players jumped on the bike and on the treadmill for workouts. Following 30-40 minutes of cardio exercise, some players lifted weights and others hit the pool. The coaches used Saturday as a relaxed, recovery session and trusted the players to know their own bodies and what they needed today.

PLAYER NEWS:
Trialist Aaron Black, who played the entire 90 minutes yesterday at middle back, was sent home today. The team will bring in trialist midfielder Marc Wilson from England this weekend.
TEAMS ADDS EXHIBITION:
FC Dallas has added a match to their exhibition schedule, playing Shelbourne of Ireland's 1st Division on Monday at 8 a.m. CT. The team will then finish up their La Manga preseason schedule with Aalesund of Norway at 11:30 a.m. CT on Tuesday.

COACH COLIN CLARKE'S QUICK HITS:
• Clarke on the decision to send defender Aaron Black home - "I thought Aaron played very well and we haven't yet made a final decision on him. He went home and still can potentially be back with us. I did think yesterday was his best game during the duration of his stay with us."
• Clarke on his overall assessment of the 4-3-3 system he has been playing - "It's worked pretty well so far for us. It is tough to play two up top when you only have two forwards. Bobby Rhine had a good performance yesterday and led the line well. Overall, they've done well and it has been good."
INJURY REPORT:

Eric Quill (Calf Strain) - Day-to-Day (worked out with the team today in their gym workout)

Cornell Glen (Ankle Sprain) - Week-to-Week (still with team in Spain)

Steve Jolley (Arthroscopic Knee Surgery) - Out 2-3 Weeks (is not with team in Spain)

Abe Thompson (Fractured Cheek Bone) - Out 4-6 Weeks (is not with team in Spain)
SUNDAY:
The team will take the afternoon off Saturday and will have their first entire day off tomorrow. There will be no training report tomorrow, but check back in on Sunday with fcdallas.net for a story on the versatile Bobby Rhine and how he is adjusting to playing both right back and forward.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:

"The good thing here is that even though the weather has been horrible most of the time, the facilities are good enough so that we can work on other stuff." - FC Dallas Assistant Coach Steve Morrow on the ever-changing weather in La Manga, Spain.
