Wizards 1, Quakes 1 -- quote sheet

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 1, KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 1

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game:
"In the first half we were a little unsure whether to go forward or not to, and they caught us on a break. It is a difficult play because they got us while we were attacking and it was a great strike from Jose, so there is nothing you can do about that."

On the second half:
"We kept on pressing them in the second half, and we made a couple subs to try and get more attacking players on the field because I don't like losing at home and I don't like tying. It was a great strike by Richard, but I am not exactly thrilled about having one point. I think Kansas City is quite happy, but we are still unbeaten at home, and I think we showed again that it is tough to play here. I think that a lot of teams don't like to play here."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER RICHARD MULROONEY

On his goal:
"Obviously, I prefer to shoot with my right foot, but in that situation, I didn't have time to cut it back to my right. I had a pretty good finishing day after practice on Friday, so I had some confidence going in. Maybe I won't hit one like that for the rest of the season, but this one counted and helped us, so I will take it."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER LANDON DONOVAN

On the game:
"We played smart in the first half, but we weren't dangerous. We wanted to be dangerous in the second half, and we were. We pounded them and they weren't able to get the ball out and we put the pressure on them."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH BOB GANSLER

On the game and the five-game road trip:
"Obviously it has been a good month for us when you look at the whole piece of work. Kudos to the guys; they didn't get overwhelmed by the size of the elephant. They just took it one bite at a time, 90 minutes at a crack. We have gotten results. Today, it was a tale of two halves."

On the team's strategy going into the second half:
"At halftime we did not talk about defending the one goal we talked about scoring the second one. With patience we could continue holding the ball and going forward. We weren't quite able to do that. For sure they had something to do with it but we know that we can do better and have been better and we are better in the first half in terms of holding it and putting our stamp on the game."

On what the team will work on:
"We will work on playing 90 minutes what we did today in 45 minutes. But we had a way of finishing it nevertheless so that we came out of here with half a win and one point."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS DEFENDER JOSE BURCIAGA JR.

On his first MLS goal:
"It was a dream come true. I have wanted this for the last four years. I got a good hit on it (the ball) and just tried to put it on target."

On how the play unfolded:
"We got a counterattack and coach Gansler said that we had to attack with numbers. I just tried to get there as quick as I could. Fortunately (Wizards midfielder Chris) Klein saw me and gave me the ball and I got the shot off. I did let him know that I was there and he saw me and the play worked out for us."

On recent results on the road:
"I think we have had a successful road trip. It is tough playing on the road. Now we can focus on winning at home. I think this five-game stretch sets a high standard for the rest of the season. I hope we can keep working hard and focus more on the second half. In order to win championships we need to get results on the road and we did that this month."
