The Wizards advanced to the Western Conference final for the second consecutive season after a dramatic 3-0 win over the defending MLS Cup Champion San Jose Earthquakes last weekend. Needing to overcome a 2-0 deficit after their first-leg loss in San Jose on October 24th, the Wizards scored two second half goals including a Jack Jewsbury strike in stoppage time to advance to the Conference Final and record one of Major League Soccer's most dramatic comebacks in playoff history. The winner of Friday's contest will advance to the 2004 MLS Cup Final at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA on Sunday, November 14th.

Kansas City has experienced tremendous success at home in the postseason and are currently riding an eight game unbeaten streak at Arrowhead in postseason play, dating back to the 2000 season. The Wizards have outscored their opponents 18-3 in those eight matches, including a 14-1 margin in their last six home playoff matches. In addition to their postseason success, the Wizards also won the 2004 U.S. Open Cup Final on their home field on September 22nd of this year.

The Wizards and Galaxy faced off in the 2000 MLS Cup Semifinals, with the deciding game being played at Arrowhead. On that historic night of October 6, 2000, the Wizards won Game 3 in regulation to force a series tiebreaker. Kansas City forward Miklos Molnar scored the game-winner six minutes into the extra period, knocking the Galaxy out of the playoffs and propelling the Wizards to their first MLS Cup Final, which they went on to win by defeating the Chicago Fire 1-0.
