Fire Continues With Bridgeview Chamber of Commerce 16th Annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive
The Chicago Fire and other Chicago Southland area businesses are working to benefit the less fortunate living in Bridgeview this Holiday season by accepting food and toy donations for the Bridgeview Chamber of Commerce's 16th Annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive. Collection boxes are located at the new Chicago Fire Bridgeview satellite office, located at 7773 S. Harlem Avenue, inside the Bridgeview Court Shopping Center on the corner of Harlem Avenue and 79th Street. In addition to the office located in Bridgeview, a second collection box site is located inside the Fire's main office at 980 N. Michigan Avenue, in downtown Chicago. For those who are interested in donating, please note that food donations must be in canned or non-perishable form and toys must be unopened and suitable for children ranging from infant age to 15 years old. All food and toy items are requested to be in original factory packaging to ensure safety. Both the Fire's main office and satellite office will be accepting all items from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the end of the drive on Tuesday, Dec. 13. A reminder, the Chicago Fire offices will be closed all-day on Nov. 24 and 25 due to the Holiday season break.

Right or Wrong, Reiter Sits for Slovakia in Playoff Loss to Spain
After Fire forward Lubos Reiter failed to make Slovakia's line-up for its World Cup qualifying playoff 5-1 loss against Spain at Madrid's Vicente Calderon Stadium on Nov. 12, it looked like the native of Stopkov would be in prime position to make an appearance four days later. However, the 30-year-old Reiter, who played an active role as Slovakia's "super-sub" during most of its 2006 World Cup Qualifying run, was once again denied action as he sat through Slovakia's 1-1 draw against Spain in the second leg of their playoff series last Wednesday, Nov. 16 at Tehelne Pole Stadium in Bratislava. The result closed the door on Slovakia's run towards a spot in Germany 2006, as the hosts needed at least a four-goal victory against the Spaniards to qualify for its first-ever appearance in the World Cup Finals. Reiter remains on nine goals in his 28 career appearances with his native Slovakia.

  • The Fire announced last week that both defender DeMetrius White and midfielder Andy Rosenband have been put on waivers. White, a former member of the Chicago Fire Juniors U-23 team, was unable to crack the Fire's first-team lineup, ending his stint with the Chicago club logging 32 minutes of Reserve Division action. Rosenband, a Hammond, IN native and former Ohio State standout, failed to find time with the senior Fire squad after registering two goals in five Reserve Division games (three starts) for the "Men in Red" in 2005.

  • The Fire's Mexican League sister club, Monarcas Morelia, saw its losing streak in Mexican First Division play extended to three games after battling to a 2-1 away loss against San Luis yesterday at Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramirez in San Luis Potosí. Morelia, who now sits at 5-9-2 (17 pts.) and fourth place in the Group One table (14th overall) with one game remaining in the 2005 Apertura season, will look to end its fall campaign on a high note this Saturday, Nov. 26 against Veracruz (3-7-6, 15 pts.) at Estadio Morelos in Morelia at 3:00 p.m. CT.
