Winter FireFest in Tinley Park Only Five Days Away
For the second straight year, the Chicago Fire will head to the Chicago Southland to host its annual Winter FireFest, with this year's event being held this Saturday, Feb. 26 from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. CT at the Holiday Inn Select & Convention Center Hotel - Tinley Park, located at 18501 S. Harlem Ave. in Tinley Park, IL. As part of its continuing community outreach effort, the Fire will also host a Health Fair in conjunction with the Winter FireFest event. Admission to FireFest and the Health Fair will be free, while donations to the FireWorks for Kids Foundation - the charitable arm of the Chicago Fire - will be accepted at the door. The 2005 Winter FireFest will feature interactive games, food, music, a raffle featuring Fire prizes and an autograph session that will offer Fire fans the first chance to meet many of the players on the club's new-look roster in 2005. In addition to players, Fire Head Coach Dave Sarachan and President/GM Peter Wilt will both be available for autograph and question-and-answer sessions. The Fire will also welcome the public for a free Health Fair during FireFest, as visitors will be able to meet with local health care professionals for free medical screenings while also receiving information on ways to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.


Guerrero Helps Honduras to Victory in UNCAF Nations Cup Opener
Newly-signed Fire D/M Mario Ivan Guerrero played all 90 minutes for the Honduran National Team in its resounding 5-1 victory over Nicaragua in the Group A opener of the 2005 UNCAF (Unión Centroamericana de Fútbol) Nations Cup last Saturday at Mateo Flores Stadium in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The seven-team tournament serves as the championship of Central America and will also determine the region's four qualifiers for this summer's CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament. Guerrero and the rest of the "Catrachos" will take on Belize this afternoon at 3:30 local/CT and tournament hosts Guatemala this Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 8:00 p.m. to round out pool play. The top two teams in each group (Group B consists of Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama) will reach the tournament's semifinal round, to be played this Friday, Feb. 25, and will also automatically qualify for the region's four Gold Cup berths. The UNCAF Nations Cup Final will take place on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 4:30 p.m.


ABC-7 Sports Anchor Jim Rose to Serve as FWFK Foundation Season Kickoff Luncheon Emcee
The FireWorks for Kids Foundation, the charitable arm of the Chicago Fire, has announced that veteran Chicago sports anchor Jim Rose of WLS-TV (ABC-7 Chicago) will serve as the Master of Ceremonies at the 2005 Season Kickoff Luncheon, sponsored by AthletiCo. The 2005 edition of the annual Luncheon will take place on Tuesday, Mar. 29 in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Chicago, located at 151 East Wacker Drive. This year's event will begin with a reception at 11:00 a.m. CT, with the lunch and formal program beginning at 12:00 p.m. In addition to Rose's appearance as the event's emcee, recent National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee and former Fire and U.S. National Team member Eric Wynalda will serve as the Luncheon's Keynote Speaker. Tickets for this year's Season Kickoff Luncheon are $60 per individual or $500 for a table of ten, with all proceeds from the event and silent auction benefiting the FireWorks for Kids Foundation.   • The Fire's sister team Monarcas Morelia rebounded from its first loss in the 2005 Clausura season in fine fashion last Saturday by rolling over Atlas 4-1 at Morelos Stadium in Morelia. With the win, Morelia remained tied for 1st place alongside Tecos (U.A.G.) in Group 1 with 13 points (4-1-1, 13 pts.). The "Monarchs" will next travel to Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico to face Group 1 cellar-dwellers Dorados (1-3-2, 5 pts.) this Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
