Weekly update: End of the road

The Crew is on the road for their season finale this weekend as they face D.C. United in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at RFK Stadium.


The Crew (11-16-4, 37 pts.) is 7-6-2 under Interim Head Coach Robert Warzycha after defeating the Chicago Fire 2-1 on the road on Saturday. D.C. United (16-10-5, 53 pts.) sits in second place in the Eastern Conference after a 2-1 home loss to the MetroStars on Saturday. D.C. United has already clinched a spot in the playoffs.


Saturday's game will be televised locally on the Ohio News Network, and can be heard in English on 103.9, TED-FM. The game can also be heard on-line in English at TheCrew.com and MLSnet.com.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2006, TWO HIGH FIRST-ROUND SUPERDRAFT PICKS AWAIT TEAM


After not making the playoffs this season, The Crew organization is looking ahead to 2006. The team will get an immediate influx of talent at the 2006 MLS SuperDraft. As of right now, The Crew owns the third and fifth overall picks in the first round of the SuperDraft. The third selection will be The Crew's pick, while the fifth pick is currently held by Colorado. The Crew obtained Colorado's natural first round pick in the Jeff Cunningham trade. The Colorado pick could change depending on the outcome of Colorado's game on Wednesday and the games this weekend.

BUFFALO WILD WINGS SET FOR AWAY GAME VIEWING PARTY ON SATURDAY

Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar on Bethel Road, the "Official Away Game Headquarters" for all Crew road games, will host a viewing party on Saturday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. for The Crew's game at D.C. United. Buffalo Wild Wings is located on 5240 Bethel Centre Mall.


PASION DE GOL SET FOR THURSDAY AT 5 P.M. ON RADIO SOL, 1550-AM

 Crew Assistant Coach Eduardo "Eddie" Carvacho hosts Pasion de Gol (Passion for Goals), an hour long soccer show every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. on Spanish radio station Radio Sol, 1550-AM.  Radio Sol is also the Spanish radio play-by-play home for all Crew home games.  The show will be geared toward The Crew and Major League Soccer, as well as the numerous Hispanic players, coaches and administrators around the league and country.


CREW RESERVES DEFEAT CHICAGO RESERVES 2-1, FACE D.C. RESERVES ON SUNDAY

 The Crew reserves defeated the Chicago Fire reserves 2-1 on Sunday in Chicago, on two goals by forward John Wolyniec.  The Crew reserves play the D.C. United reserves this Sunday, Oct. 16, at 10:00 a.m. (ET) in Washington, D.C.  Sunday's game will be the reserves final game of the season.


MARTINO, MARSHALL, RODRIGUEZ CALLED INTO NATIONAL TEAMS, ALL BACK FOR D.C.

 Columbus Crew General Manager Mark McCullers announced last Monday that Kyle Martino and Mario Rodriguez had been called into national team camp by their respective countries for World Cup qualifying matches this past weekend.  Martino joined the U.S. squad in Miami as they prepared for their match on Saturday in Costa Rica, while Rodriguez and his Guatemalan side faced Mexico in Mexico on Saturday.  Both players missed The Crew's games in Dallas on Wednesday and in Chicago on Saturday.  The U.S lost 3-0 to Costa Rica, with Martino entering in the 74th minute as a sub for Carlos Bocanegra.


The U.S. now sits in second place in the final round hexagonal with a 6-1-2 record. The U.S. was the first team in CONCACAF to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany after defeating Mexico 2-0 on Sept. 3 at Crew Stadium. The team is now in Boston preparing for their final World Cup qualifier against Panama. That match takes place Wednesday, Oct. 12, in Foxboro, Mass. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2.


Panama currently sits in sixth place in the group with a record of 0-2-7. Guatemala hosts Costa Rica in their final qualifying match on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Guatemala is currently in fifth place in CONCACAF qualifying after a 5-2 loss to Mexico, and trails fourth-place Trinidad & Tobago by two points.


The fourth-place team in CONCACAF will face the fifth-place team from Asia for a spot in Germany. Rodriguez started the game and played 55 minutes. Bruce Arena announced his roster for Foxboro on Sunday and added Crew defender Chad Marshall to the fold. All three players will be back for Saturday's game in D.C.
