Coming off back-to-back 3-0 home wins, the Quakes play two games this week as they take on the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday, June 29 at Spartan Stadium and then travel to Dallas to take on FC Dallas at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday, July 2. On Wednesday, the game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. PT can be heard live on the radio on 1590 KLIV (English) and 1370 KZSF (Spanish). The Quakes defeated the Rapids 1-0 on May 25 at Invesco Field at Mile High in the first meeting between the teams in 2005. Wednesday night is value night at Spartan Stadium with tickets starting as low as $5 for groups and $1 hot dogs and sodas available at Spartan Stadium. The San Jose Earthquakes benefited from two Los Angeles Galaxy own goals and cruised to a 3-0 win over the Galaxy in Landon Donovan's return to Spartan Stadium on Saturday night. Donovan, who starred for the Quakes for four seasons before joining Los Angeles prior to this year, was quiet in his first visit to Spartan Stadium as a member of the Galaxy. San Jose got out to a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute on a brilliant passing attack capped off by an Alejandro Moreno goal. Kelly Gray started the play with a pass to Ronald Cerritos near midfield. The Quakes forward chested the ball down to Davis, and then made a run up the right sideline. Davis hit Cerritos with the ball, and he dribbled into the penalty area before sending a fine cross through the middle of the area that a sliding Alejandro Moreno was able to direct into the goal for the 1-0 lead. On a corner kick in the 54th minute, Quakes goalkeeper Pat Onstad maintained the San Jose advantage with an unbelievable effort that saw him make four rapid-fire saves on the goal line. The Galaxy's Michael Umana got the ball on the left side of the six-yard box and sent a ball into the center of the area, where Onstad kicked out Jovan Kirovski's hard shot. The ball fell to Kirovski, who put a shot on goal that Onstad was able to punch away from the ground. Still on the ground, Onstad dove to the corner to knock away another Kirovski attempt, and then jumped to his feet to punch away Umana's final shot before the ball was cleared away. The Quakes extended their lead to 2-0 on a strange play in the 64th minute. Clark passed the ball up into the penalty area to Chung, who then hit Cerritos with the ball in the middle of the area. Cerritos touched the ball forward as he attempted to slice between two Galaxy defenders as Hartman rushed out to get the ball. Attempting to get it to Hartman, Umana touched the ball past a sliding Hartman and into the net for an own goal. In the 68th minute the Quakes would again benefit from an own goal, as Clark popped a ball up toward the L.A. goal. Marshall tried to head the ball back to Hartman, but his header soared over the goalkeeper and into the goal to put San Jose up 3-0.

The San Jose Earthquakes shut down the Colorado Rapids to earn a 1-0 shutout at Invesco Field at Mile High. Alejandro Moreno scored the only goal of the match in the 76th minute and Pat Onstad made seven saves to record his third shutout of the season. Dwayne De Rosario started the Quakes attack with a 40-yard blast in the opening five minutes. The Canadian international received the ball in the middle of the field and moved to his right before unleashing a shot that Rapids goalkeeper Joe Cannon could only push over the net for a corner kick. Alain Nkong nearly broke through for the Rapids 30 minutes into the match after a turnover in the Quakes defense. Nkong intercepted an errant pass and broke into the box with three defenders around him. He managed to get off a shot, but Onstad made the save diving to his right. The Rapids had the best chance of the opening half when Jeff Cunnigham received a pass from Nkong on the right side of the penalty box. Cunningham went straight to goal and shot to the near post, but Onstad came off his line to cut the angle and make the save. Ronald Cerritos almost put the Quakes on top after a long ball into the box by Brad Davis in the 55th minute. Cerritos got away from his defender and found himself in alone with Cannon, but his low shot was saved and the ball was cleared away. Moments later De Rosario found Mark Chung inside the box with a deft pass that slipped past three defenders. Chung cut the ball back and tried to drive the shot through Cannon, but Cannon was able block the shot and smother it to end the threat. Moreno put the Quakes ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 76th minute, his third road goal of the season. Wade Barrett found De Rosario with a pass in the middle of the field and he swung a ball out wide to Moreno. "El Tanquecito" beat Mike Petke and ripped a low, right-footed just inside the far post for the lead.

Despite the loss of three starters due to injury, including leading scorer Brian Ching, the San Jose Earthquakes earned a 0-0 tie with FC Dallas at Spartan Stadium. Troy Dayak and Ching left the game in the first half, while Brian Mullan departed in the 63rd minute as the Quakes managed to record their second straight shutout. The Earthquakes, already playing without injured right back Craig Waibel, were dealt another blow to the defense in the 10th minute when Troy Dayak was forced to leave the game with a injured left knee. Second-year defender Ryan Cochrane replaced him. On the ensuing free kick from the right following Dayak's injury, Ronnie O'Brien collected a loose ball at the left corner of the Quakes box and unleashed a hard volley that deflected off Ching's face and appeared headed into the left corner of the goal before San Jose goalkeeper Pat Onstad was able to knock the ball out of bounds. The Quakes had a fine opportunity in the 25th minute following a San Jose corner kick. Ricardo Clark gathered the ball on the right side and beat two defenders, moving into the center of the Dallas penalty area before sending his high shot just wide of the goal. FC Dallas responded with a hard and low Ronnie O'Brien free kick that went wide of the right post. FC Dallas suffered its own injury loss in the 35th minute when midfielder Richard Mulrooney left the game with an injury to his right knee. The injuries continued to mount in the 40th minute, as Earthquakes leading scorer Brian Ching departed with a right hamstring strain. In the 43rd minute, Davis sent a looping free kick from outside the 18-yard box on the right side of the field barely over the crossbar. The Quakes had their best opportunity of the first half to score in the 45th minute when Mullan lofted a cross to Alejandro Moreno in the center of the field. Moreno headed the ball forward to a streaking Ronald Cerritos, who was able to get behind the defense and dribble in alone toward the FC Dallas goal, but his low shot was saved by a fully extended, diving Garlick. The Quakes lost another starter to injury in the 63rd minute as Mullan was forced to leave the game with a left ankle injury. Just moments later, San Jose had one of its best chances to score when Davis whipped the ensuing free kick to a charging Moreno at the six yard box. Moreno jumped into the air and sent a hard header on goal that Garlick was able to punch over the crossbar. The Quakes continued to pressure FC Dallas, and forced another tough save from Garlick in the 70th minute when Moreno dribbled past his defender and sent in a cross from the left side. Ian Russell headed the ball toward the goal, only to see Garlick make the stop.

The San Jose Earthquakes reserves struck for three goals against the Los Angeles Galaxy reserves to earn a 3-0 win at Valley Christian High School in San Jose. The Quakes got on the board with goals from Brian Ching, Chris Aloisi, and Ian Russell, as Jon Conway recorded his second shutout of the reserve league season. The Earthquakes were the first on the board on a Ching goal in the 31st minute. Chris Wondolowski, who was in the middle of the field, sent the ball to Ching on the left side of the box. Ching carried the ball into the penalty area and ripped a low shot that found its way past Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Cronin and into the net to put the Quakes up 1-0. San Jose added another tally to the score on a goal from a corner kick in the 38th minute. Russell took the kick and sent a bending ball into the middle of the crowded box. Quakes defender Chris Aloisi jumped up to head the ball past Cronin into the back of the net to give the Quakes a 2-0 lead going into the second half. The Galaxy shot another ball off of the post in the 47th minute. Grabavoy took the free kick from outside the left corner of the penalty area. His shot beat goalkeeper Conway, but hit the crossbar and rebounded back into the box where the Quakes defense cleared it away. The Galaxy had possibly their best opportunity of the game on a great run in the 57th minute. Michael Enfield made a beautiful run down the middle of the field, beating three Quakes players before dishing the ball off to a completely open Gomez waiting on the right side of the field. Gomez sent a rocket of a shot into the box that Conway dove after to punch away. In the 60th minute, the Quakes notched their third goal of the game on a shot from midfielder Russell. Julian Nash carried the ball down the left side of the field to the corner flag before crossing a beautiful ball into the box. Russell was waiting in the penalty area and headed it into the upper right corner to give the Quakes a 3-0 advantage over the Galaxy.

Davis Joins U.S. National Team Camp For First Time
San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Brad Davis will not be with the club for most of July, as Davis will be a member of the United States National Team's 23-man roster for the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Davis, 23, joined the U.S. team in Portland, Oregon for a week of training beginning on June 26 following the Quakes Saturday game against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The current assist leader in MLS with eight, including one against the Galaxy on June 25, Davis will be making his first appearance in a camp with the full U.S. National Team. The Gold Cup, the main competition of the CONCACAF nations, includes teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean, as well as up to three entrants from other world football confederations. The tournament runs from July 6 - 24 all around the United States. The United States is in Group B along with Canada, Cuba and Costa Rica. Davis and the U.S. National Team open play on Thursday, July 7 against Cuba at Qwest Field in Seattle, Wash. Two days later in Seattle on Saturday, July 9, the United States faces Canada, before wrapping up group play against Costa Rica on Tuesday, July 12 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
De Rosario To Play for Canada
Earthquakes midfielder Dwayne De Rosario will be with the Canadian National Team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. De Rosario will leave to train with Canada after the Quakes Wednesday night game against the Colorado Rapids, and will miss most of the month of July. Canada is in Group B along with the United States, Cuba, and Costa Rica. De Rosario and the Canadian National Team will play in the first round on Thursday, July 7 against Costa Rica at 5:30 p.m. PT in Seattle, against the United States on Saturday, July 9 at 11:30 a.m. PT, and will face Cuba on Tuesday, July 12 at 6:00 p.m. PT. The MLS 2004 Goal of the Year winner has scored seven goals for Canada during his 29 senior team caps since 1998.
Quakes Stingy At Spartan
The Earthquakes' opponents have not scored at Spartan Stadium since April 23, 2005 when Kansas City's Chris Klein found the net in the 34th minute of the Wizards' 3-2 loss to the Quakes. The visitors' scoreless streak at Spartan now stands at a club-record 416 minutes. The previous record was 396 minutes, which was set from July 24 - Sept. 8 of 2004. The Quakes have earned shut outs in their last four matches at home tying the club record. The last time the Quakes recorded four straight shutouts was from Sept. 26, 1999 - April 22, 2000.
Unstoppable Onstad
With the 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, Earthquakes goalkeeper Pat Onstad earned his sixth shutout of 2005 to tie him for second in the league in shutouts. Onstad is now third in MLS with an impressive 1.07 goals against average, giving up only 15 goals after 14 games so far this year. He is also ranked first in save percentage, saving 56 out of 71 shots on goal for a 78.9 percentage. Since April 23, Onstad has not allowed an opponent to score at Spartan Stadium for four games and 416 straight minutes at home.
Moreno Strikes at Home
Quakes forward Alejandro Moreno had scored four goals this season for San Jose, but all four had been scored on the road going into last weekend's game versus the Galaxy. However, Moreno found the back of the net in the 37th minute against Los Angeles for his first home goal of 2005. He now leads the Quakes in goals with five.
Cerritos Closes In On Club Records
Forward Ronald Cerritos registered his 52nd assist of his nine-year MLS career when he notched an assist on June 25 against the Galaxy for his fifth of the season. The Quakes forward has registered 43 assists in his San Jose career, just one behind Quakes all-time leader Richard Mulrooney. Currently the club's all-time goal scoring leader, Cerritos is looking to become the teams' all-time leader in both goals and assists. He is tied with John Doyle for second in all-time appearances for the San Jose club, playing in 132 games. Cerritos is also third all-time in Quakes history in starts with 128. Cerritos' next goal will be his 70th in his career, seventh best in MLS history.
One Goal Games
The Earthquakes have only decided a game by more than one goal twice this season, on June 18 over Real Salt Lake and on June 25 against Los Angeles with two 3-0 victories. The first 12 San Jose games were either decided by one goal or ended in ties prior to San Jose exploding for a 3-0 win over Salt Lake. The Quakes 3-0 win on June 18 was also San Jose's first multi-goal game since April 30, the last time they played Real Salt Lake in a 2-2 tie.
Robinson, Califf Form Tough Duo
Since Danny Califf was inserted into the Quakes starting lineup alongside Eddie Robinson in central defense on May 25 against Colorado, the Quakes have allowed just two goals in six games, posting four shutouts in that span and a 3-1-2 record.
Home Stretch
The Quakes are in the midst of playing three games in a row at Spartan Stadium. The San Jose club has taken two straight decisive 3-0 victories against both Real Salt Lake on Saturday, June 18 and the Los Angeles Galaxy on June 25. The Quakes finish out the home stand with a match on Wednesday, June 29 against the Colorado Rapids. So far this year the Quakes hold an undefeated 3-0-4 record at home, scoring 14 goals, allowing seven, and earning four shutouts. Mark Chung has been more dangerous in the month of June than any other Quakes player with 11 goals and 15 assists in his MLS career. June is midfielder Ian Russell's best month also, with two goals and six assists in his career. Pat Onstad has 0.62 goals against average in June, allowing only seven goals. Defender Kelly Gray has also been busy in June, scoring two goals and taking an individual-high 21 shots in the month.

The Quakes gave up their lead and lost to Los Angeles on July 4, 2004 for the first time since July 27, 2002 against Kansas City. The Quakes are also impressive in the playoffs when scoring first, posting a 6-0-0 record.
