Weekly update: California training

HOUSTON, TX. - Just five weeks remain until Houston 1836 opens its 2006 season on April 2, against the Colorado Rapids. During the next few weeks, Houston 1836 continues its preparations by traveling to Los Angeles and South Carolina.

While in California, Houston 1836 is scheduled to play preseason matches against the Los Angeles Galaxy (March 1), Chivas USA (March 2), and the MetroStars (March 4). The team then switches coasts and spends March 17-26 in Charleston, South Carolina, where they face the Charleston Battery, D.C. United, and the MetroStars in exhibition games.

While training recently at the University of Houston's Carl Lewis Track Field, Houston 1836 defeated San Jacinto College, 7-0, in a scrimmage and lost to Real Salt Lake, 2-1, in a game played in rainy, slick conditions. Houston 1836 midfielder Brian Mullan created several opportunities, including Alejandro Moreno's goal in the 36th minute.

De Rosario is expected to rejoin his teammates at camp on Sunday, March 5, in Los Angeles.
