Dave Checketts interview. Dang, the guy is smooth. He's seen it all when it comes to pro sports. He had the funniest comment of the entire MLS Cup weekend when he told Paul Gardner of "Soccer America" during a press conference that Gardner's question was "kid stuff." Awesome.

The final two picks. Chivas: Thiago Martins, Jeff Stewart. RSL: Kevin Ara, Jeff Stewart. Little-known fact, Normie, that Jeff Stewart speaks Spanish, though I hear he speaks it with one of those Castilian lisps, which is going to get him beaten up when he makes promotional appearances in East L.A. OK, that's not true, either. I don't even know who Jeff Stewart is. Secondly, what's the deal with Wynalda's big "you gotta be happy for this kid" shout-out to Kevin Ara just because Ara went to Harvard? What, what does he think most Ivy Leaguers can't even run?

Final analysis:

Well, all the old expensive guys are going back to their teams with their old expensive chips firmly in place on their old expensive shoulders.

Both Chivas USA and RSL picked up some starters, most notably in my mind, Torres, Hendricksonez, and Ziadie for Chivas, and Brenes, Brown, and Pierce for ReAL. (My sloshing gut tells me Williams will be traded and Kasey Keller will be the starting keeper.)

Might sound odd, but Chivas USA has to be the favorite to win the Cup next year. I mean, they had fans show up for the Expansion Draft! Too bad the ChivaGirls weren't there.

I agree with Waldo that RSL has their work cut out for them, though Clint Mathis would certainly help.

Thomas Rongen better learn Spanish real quick, or else he's going to find himself rather at a loss for words for the first time in his life.

ESPN's Brian Kenny is fast becoming the next Jack Edwards, and I'm OK with that.
