United 1, Fire 1 -- quote sheet

one or two big errors and it cost us. Everyone is ready to come play us, they always have (been), and that's just how it is when you have success and if we are not ready for it, its going to be a long year, but I think so far we have been ready for it. So far a win and a tie, it probably should be two wins, but as they say 'could have, should have.' We've got to move on. We have a game Wednesday against Pumas and it's a great opportunity to advance in a prestigious cup like this and we are doing OK."

CHICAGO FIRE HEAD COACH DAVE SARACHAN

On the game:
"In Dallas, obviously, we did not have a good start to the game. Tonight I think we came out with the right energy and put them on their heels early. I am disappointed we gave up the goal but I think our guys had a good positive attitude coming out in the second half. It was back and forth in the second half for sure. Clearly we dodged a couple bullets, but at the same time we had some chances. It is a good result in my mind and a good result for us."

On forward Chris Rolfe:
"This kid has real clear ideas. He moves well. He's got a great idea of where to go with the ball and a great first touch. Through preseason and all the way up till now when he's in front of goal he generally gets a good shot off. He's becoming more of a clinical type finisher in the bit we have had him so we thought he needed to be on the field tonight and we were rewarded with a goal."

On the team:
"Tonight was a starting point. We're becoming a team, in terms of guys bailing the next guy out. Clearly, there are a lot of new guys but we have spent enough time together where I think we understand each other. I still think we are not going to be truly judged until six or eight games in, but it is getting better. I was pleased with their attitude even going down 1-0 and coming out and battling back. It's never easy to do at RFK."

On goalkeeper Zach Thornton's injury:
"In all the years I have known Zach I have never known him to get hurt. He suffered a pull underneath his arm. I guess he made a couple movements in the first half -- I was as surprised as anybody when our trainer said he could not go. Credit Matt Pickens. He is a good young goalkeeper. He was put to the test immediately and I thought he came through with flying colors. I thought all along we had a good goalkeeping corps and he was ready and able and did a good job."

On the newly revamped RFK:
"It was fine. I mean when we came out in the walk-through everybody that has been here before made a few comments -- it was different, but once the game started there were no problems -- it was soccer."

CHICAGO FIRE GOALKEEPER MATT PICKENS

On his first MLS appearance:
"It was a rush of relief. I did not really play at all last year. It felt good to finally break into Major League Soccer. No goals [scored], too, so I am happy. We got a point on the road. It couldn't have been better, for me, to make my first appearance against the defending champs. Playing against Jamie Moreno was nice. He almost got one on me -- but I said 'no'."
