Third annual United for D.C. golf tournament sold out

WASHINGTON, DC - United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, announced today that the Third Annual United for D.C. Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented by United Bank, is sold out. Thirty-six foursomes will take to the links at Reston National Golf Course on Monday, September 13th for a 9:00 a.m. ET shotgun start. United for D.C. has started a waiting list for interested golfers. Participants in this year's event will play alongside current and former United players and coaches, as well as a host of other local sports and media celebrities.

"We are thrilled to announce this sellout a week ahead of the event," said Catherine Marquette, Executive Director of United for D.C. and United Director of Community and Fan Relations. "For an event like this to sell out in only its third year is a testament to the popularity of this event with our fans, our donors and our sponsors. This guarantees the financial success of the event and our increased ability to fund more programming in the community in 2005."

United Bank, a long-time sponsor of D.C. United, continues its increased commitment to the community-relations initiatives of the club by joining as the presenting sponsor of the event. The company is also a supporter of the United Drives for D.C. initiative. At branches throughout the greater Washington, DC area, United Bank served as a collection point for the children's book drive and will serve as a collection point for a school supplies drive during August and September.

"United Bank is pleased to be the presenting sponsor of this event, and very gratified that the community has responded so enthusiastically," said Paulette Cross, Executive Vice President of Marketing at United Bank. "As a community bank, we have always taken an active role in charitable and civic events, a commitment that we proudly share with United for D.C."

Taking an all-hole sponsorship role are the Screaming Eagles, one of D.C. United's most active supporters groups. In addition to their tremendous support of the club in the stands, the Screaming Eagles have also been long-term supporters of United's community-relations efforts and United for D.C. Cox Communications, Guernsey Office Products, Cavalier Telephone, Arent Fox, Active Designs, The Virginia Baseball Club, GEICO, Honda, Clear Channel Communications and Delta Airlines join the tournament as hole sponsors.

Also returning in a sponsorship role are Dunkin' Donuts, Pepsi and Budweiser. The three have provided food and beverage for the golfers each of the tournament's three years. Joining this year as a lunch sponsor is Red, Hot and Blue.

In addition to the golf tournament itself, there will be a silent auction, raffle and other contests, with Honda again topping the prize list, offering two 2004 Honda Element EXS's to the winners of its hole-in-one contest. Delta Airlines, adidas, Nike and Drilling Tennis and Golf have provided team prizes for first, second, third and last place teams. The silent auction and raffle will consist of autographed merchandise from various sports teams from several professional leagues as well as other apparel, gift certificates and more. For the less-skilled duffers and the occasional errant shot, mulligans will also be available for purchase. All proceeds will go towards United for D.C.'s educational and social welfare initiatives.
